As with
most doors that God opens,
they don’t open based on our 5, 10, or 15 year plans. Instead, they
open in His
timing, providing we are open to His will. When we started planning for
a Janet
Paschal concert in August of 2007, we never had plans of forming a
ministry
organization.
Over
the
years, it had always been Rebekah’s dream to bring Janet to Beckley.
While away at school in August 2007, Rebekah felt that God’s call that
the time
had come to organize the concert. In a matter of a few days, Linda
Chaney,
David Hurst, Jack Pennington, and Lynne Price all agreed to help with
organizing the concert. We were just a group of lay people coming
together to
plan a concert for November 2007.
During the
months that spanned from August to November, we faced a number of
struggles.
But, as our group came together to get over the humps, we spent a lot
of time
in prayer, and our decisions, we feel were God-led. One interesting
thing is
that every time we needed to make a decision, the decision was
unanimous
amongst all 5 of us. Along the way, we did lose one of our team members
to a
move to Missouri.
We learned
a lot and we grew a lot over those months. And, by the time the concert
rolled around,
we knew that we had been called by God for that purpose, and that God
would
have there, the people whom He wanted to have there.
Following
the Janet Paschal Concert, we planned to meet to recap the concert,
discuss
what we had learned through the experience, and bring that season to a
close.
What
we
hadn’t expected was to obtain a donation in the mail to the group, just
days before
our planned meeting. When we met, there seemed to be a desire amongst
all of us
that there was ministry to be done in the community. And, we felt that
God was
calling us to form a ministry to reach out to the community – reaching
souls
for Jesus Christ, bringing together the Body of Christ, and bringing
God all
glory through everything that we do. The donation we feel is a
confirmation
that God had opened the door and we were ready to walk through it.
The first
half of 2008 has been spent on legal logistics, in obtaining our name,
registering with the state of West Virginia,
and working on our non-profit status. We are awaiting our final
information
from the West Virginia Secretary of State. We are a bit antsy and
reading to
jump into the ministry aspects, but the four of us are learning
patience along
the way
